pygeoapi Receives OGC Compliance Certification and Reference Implementation Status

Date: 2020-01-21

The pygeoapi project is happy to announce that it has received OGC Compliance Certification and Reference Implementation Status for the OGC API – Features specification.

pygeoapi is already an OSGeo Community Project and is working towards full project status through the OSGeo Incubation process. Both OGC compliance and OSGeo recognition are important steps for the project’s community and visibility.

Standards are at the core of pygeoapi; achieving OGC compliance and reference implementation status is part of the project’s commitment to a modern, open-source and standards-based API server with a low barrier to geospatial data.

Scott Simmons, Chief Operations Officer, and Executive Director, Standards Program, OGC, says “OGC is pleased to see the OGC API – Features – Part 1: Core standard so quickly implemented. The pygeoapi Reference Implementation highlights the collaboration across the geospatial community to develop both the standard and compliant implementations”.

pygeoapi is a Python server implementation of the OGC API suite of standards. The project emerged as part of the next generation OGC API efforts in 2018 and provides the capability for organizations to deploy a RESTful OGC API endpoint using OpenAPI, GeoJSON, and HTML. pygeoapi is open source and released under an MIT license.

A demonstration instance of the reference implementation is available at https://demo.pygeoapi.io/cite
